How to use the birthday deals map
Shared guide. These steps follow the Alaska map. Map and Deals in the header follow the last state you chose. Colorado’s map is a draft with no stores listed.
The map shows all 198 active licensed cannabis stores in Alaska and marks the 149 that offer a birthday deal. Follow these 8 steps to browse by region, check store details, plan a driving route to several stores and estimate what the trip costs. The numbered orange badges in each picture match the numbered notes beside it.
Step 1 of 8Moving around the map
- Pan by dragging the map with your mouse or one finger.
- Zoom with the + and − buttons in the top-left corner, the mouse wheel, or by pinching on a phone. Double-clicking also zooms in.
- Full screen: the button under the zoom controls fills your whole screen with the map. Press it again or hit Esc to exit.
- The scale bar in the bottom-left corner shows distance in miles and kilometers at the current zoom.
Step 2 of 8Markers, popups & the legend
- Every store is a dot. Green has a birthday deal; blue means no birthday deal was found. Click or tap a dot to open its popup.
- The popup shows the store's number, name, full address, city and state license number; phone and website when available; whether it has a birthday deal, the exact wording of the offer and where that came from (for example the store's own site or a listing like Weedmaps); and the date it was last checked.
- Hover over a dot to see the store's name without opening it.
- The Legend (bottom-left) explains the colors. If it covers something, drag it anywhere. With a keyboard, focus the Legend heading and use the arrow keys (hold Shift for bigger steps); Home puts it back.
- Deals as a list → opens the table of deals.
Step 3 of 8Choosing a region
- Open the Region dropdown in the title bar. It starts on Anchorage. The other options are All Alaska, Mat-Su, Kenai Peninsula, Interior, Southeast, Southwest, Arctic-Northwest and PWS-Copper River.
- The title bar shows how many stores and deals the region has. Both the map and the store list now show only that region's stores.
- The map zooms to the region you picked.
- The region is saved in the page address (for example
map#region=kenai), so you can bookmark it or share the link.
If you change region while you have stores checked for a route, any checked stores outside the new region are unchecked. If the current route used them, it is cleared.
Step 4 of 8The Stores & birthday deals panel
The green panel near the top-left is where you browse stores and build a route. Stores are grouped by region and city, and each row shows the store's number, name, address, birthday offer and phone number. On a phone, tap the number to call.
- Move the panel by dragging its green header.
- − minimizes the panel to just its header (+ opens it again). × closes it; a Birthday deals button takes its place so you can bring it back.
- Only stores with birthday deals: check this box to hide stores without a deal.
- Start (blue checkbox) makes that store your route's starting point. You can pick only one.
- Visit (green checkbox) adds that store as a stop on your route. Check as many as you like.
- Click a store name to zoom the map to that store and open its popup.
Step 5 of 8Planning a route
- ACheck stores in Visit
- BChoose where to start
- CPress Route checked
Three ways to choose a start:
- Route checked draws the route and arranges your stops in the shortest driving order. Status messages appear above the summary, for example if no stores are checked.
- Set start on map lets you pick any point as your start.
- A blue banner says “Tap the map to set your start point” until you do.
- The route and numbered stops appear on the map. If road routing isn't available (offline, or no road connection) you see a dashed straight-line route labeled as approximate.
- The summary shows total road miles, an estimated drive time (without live traffic), your start and the stops in order. Clear route starts over. Your route start is remembered in this browser, so your route is restored when you come back.
Step 6 of 8Getting turn-by-turn directions
Once a route is ready, the summary includes these buttons:
- Open in Google Maps opens driving directions with all your stops in the same order.
- Open in Apple Maps does the same in Apple Maps.
- new tab opens the same directions in a new tab instead. The main buttons open in the current window, so use your browser's Back button to return. Your route will still be there.
- Copy copies the directions link so you can text it to yourself or a friend.
Apple Maps opens the Maps app on Mac and iPhone (macOS 15.4+/iOS 18.4+). On Windows or Chrome it opens Apple's web map (beta).
Step 7 of 8The Trip cost panel
The Trip cost panel estimates what your route costs to drive. It fills in automatically once you have a route.
- Like the other panels, drag it by its header, minimize it with −, or close it with × (a Trip cost button brings it back).
- Gas price / gal starts at a local average for your location, start store or region. A note under it says where the price came from. Type your own price to override it, and use the reset link to go back to the local average.
- Miles per gallon: enter your vehicle's fuel economy. Total miles comes from your route.
- Electric vehicle: choose your EV model to fill in its EPA efficiency (miles per kWh). Once you've set a start point, pick the utility at start to fill in its rate. Electricity / kWh and Base mi/kWh can both be edited by hand.
- Adjust for temperature: cold weather can cut EV range by 20–40%. With this checked, the estimate uses the current outside temperature. Type a different temperature in override °F, or leave it blank for the live reading.
- Gas cost, Adjusted mi/kWh and Electric cost show the result for the full route.
- The reset button puts every gas and EV setting back to its default.
Step 8 of 8Tips, limits & privacy
Check the deal before you go
Most deals apply the day before, day of or day after your birthday, and many require a loyalty account and a valid ID. Deals were last checked and can change.
Not every place is on the road system
Most of Southeast, Southwest and Arctic-Northwest (and Cordova) can't be reached by road. Routes there are approximate or unavailable, and ferry or air legs aren't included.
Privacy
If you allow location access, your position stays in your browser. It is sent only to the services that need it: OSRM for road routing, Open-Meteo for outside temperature and OpenEI for local electricity rates. Your route start is saved only in this browser and never sent to this site. Google Maps and Apple Maps links include your start and stop coordinates when you open them. Visit counts are cookieless and anonymous. The site does not set a cookie for them and does not show a consent banner.
